I just watched a video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BYpgnMmoKQM) about the Luton Airport fire in the U.K. a few weeks ago. A vehicle caught fire in a parking garage and the resulting fire destroyed 1,500 vehicles! The news media seemed to go out of their way to inform us that this was not an electric car, it was a diesel.
Da Truth and Nothing But Da Truth!
Well . . . maybe not the whole truth. Did you catch the part where the burning Range Rover dropped through the steel-reinforced concrete floor to the next lower level? Yep. When does that happen? It doesn’t! At least, not when less than thirty gallons of gas or diesel is involved. Some years ago a gasoline tanker truck crashed and caught fire beneath an overpass. This fire resulted in the collapse of the overpass. However, if the tanker was full, we’re talking about some 11,000 gallons of fuel, not twenty or thirty.
Don’t Believe your Lying Eyes!
Here’s another video: https://www.bing.com/videos/search?q=luton+nairport+fire+vehicle+was+it+hybrid&docid=603527949780726662&mid=B9FA1A30A376D69B93D9B9FA1A30A376D69B93D9&view=detail&FORM=VIRE. The guy is English (I love the English!)
He points out that a diesel fire isn’t all that hot and that it’s quite smokey. The video(s) of the fire show(s) that this was one yellow/white hot fire and it was not nearly as smokey as a hydrocarbon fire. Both videos are adamant that this is a diesel hybrid vehicle, and the second one demonstrates how you can discern this from the video. Both point out that the hybrid battery is on the left (passenger) side of the vehicle toward the front, which is where the fire in the video seems to be centered. My belief is that this indeed is a lithium battery fire. We’ve seen tons of those with fully-electric vehicles and those stupid two-wheel things that kids ride (the ones that cripple adults).
Why the Ruse?
It’s obvious. We must not derail that speeding train that is the fully-electric vehicle train that’s heading to destinations unknown, time of arrival yet-to-be-determined. Maybe not a great comparison, but what came to mind is the Viet Nam era “Hell yes, we’re kicking those commie bastards asses!” that we got constantly from LBJ/Nixon and company.
