I just recently became aware of this issue, which alarms me even though I don’t have a new enough vehicle to affect me.
Want to Share?
My first run-in with “Why the hell do you need that?” I think was with Spotify. Why did they need access to my contacts? It made no sense. But, if you wanted the service you had no option but to agree with the terms. After all, there were no alternative services who didn’t require this sort of intrusiveness. I thought “Oh, what the hell”, like most of us did. I’m not sure I spent too much time thinking about what Spotify intended to do with this data. Didn’t seem to matter much.
Don’t Like it? Well, Screw You!
One thing that’s been hoisted upon us by “Big Internet” is this edict that you must share personal information to get their services that you have to pay for! Can you imagine? You pay for the service AND YOU MUST share your personal information! Just paying the (monthly) fee isn’t enough. They want your data! How many of us are willing to say “If all music streaming services require my personal data, I just won’t use a music streaming service”?
My Car is What . . . ?
The manufacturer of your late model car seemingly has taken the same approach as Spotify. If you want to buy or lease our vehicle, you MUST agree to our terms! And these terms include a wealth of information that you’re likely not even aware of!
